Marc Espie, in collaboration with EPITA students, is contributing to and focusing on various aspects of the development of this project, considering security and reliability as essential concepts. They are involved in the software supply chain, the provision of software packages in the form of ports, and the integration of quality assurance mechanisms, such as debugging tools, while also ensuring performance. This work is further integrated into virtualized architectures.
OpenBSD is freely available. The current release is OpenBSD 7.6, released October 8, 2024 which is the 57th release.
OpenBSD is developed entirely by volunteers. The project's development environment and developer events are funded through contributions collected by The OpenBSD Foundation.
