The team also conducts research in the field of sociology, with a particular focus on issues related to addiction in the context of online gambling. In collaboration with several research centers in the sociology of gambling and leisure, health sociology, and addiction studies, this work combines computational approaches (such as machine learning) with quantitative (surveys) and qualitative (observations and interviews) methodologies from the humanities and social sciences. Within the specific framework of a sociological study of gambling addiction, this methodological plurality aims to understand the addictive mechanisms embedded in online gambling platforms, the problematic practices themselves within their sociotechnical contexts, and the biographical trajectories of individuals engaged in such practices.
