Amani Abou Rida

Who am I

Hello and welcome to my web page! My name is Amani Abou Rida and I am a member of the [LRE lab at EPITA] in Strasbourg. In addition to my work at the LRE lab, I am also working in the [CSTB - Complex Systems and Translational Bioinformatics - team] (https://cstb.icube.unistra.fr/) in the [ICube Laboratory, University of Strasbourg] (https://icube.unistra.fr/). I joined the LRE lab in 2021 as a PhD student and I am currently working on Explainability of Cyberattacks using Graph Analytics as part of the THIA-Artic project. My research is supervised by Pierre Parrend.

Before joining the LRE lab, I completed my master’s degree from the Lebanese University and did my internship at Telecom sudparis where I worked on Extracting Attribute Based Access Control Model From Business Process Event Logs. After completing my studies, I worked as a data scientist in Lebanese companies in 2019.

In addition to my work at the LRE lab and the CSTB team, I am also a member of the Beirut AI group since 2022.

Research

My research work focuses on providing explainability in cyber attack detection using graph analytics. Specifically, I explore the use of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) to capture and analyze complex relationships between network entities and provide interpretable insights into the detection process.

Constraints:

  • Metrics for building trust in machine learning when detecting cyber attacks. I address the limitations of machine learning in cyber attack detection, such as the absence of interaction between machines and the difficulty of visualizing attack patterns in the dataset. Additionally, I develop metrics for ensuring trust in machine learning when explainaning the detected cyber attacks.

  • Explainability of cyber attacks using GNNs. I investigate the use of GNNs as a powerful tool for explainability in cyber attack detection. GNNs enable detailed understanding of the attack surface and the interconnectivity of the devices in the network, and can provide interpretable insights into the factors that contributed to the attack and the steps that can be taken to prevent future attacks.

Overall, my research work aims to address the limitations of machine learning in cyber attack detection and to provide more interpretable insights into the detection process using graph analytics, with a focus on GNNs.
